(Kaieteur News) – E-tickets issued by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) have surged dramatically—from just 837 in 2024 to 24,793 in 2025, according to Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken.
Speaking at the Guyana Police Force’s Annual Christmas Award Ceremony, Hicken revealed that “e-tickets rose from 837 in 2024 to a whopping 24,793 in 2025.” He added that overall accidents have decreased by 15.2 per cent, noting that “data enforcement and targeted education are protecting our citizens.”
Just last week, the Police Force reported that over 1,000 persons who were issued speeding tickets have still not paid their fines.
The e-ticketing initiative forms part of the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS), which was launched officially by the traffic department on April 7, 2025. The system had been in pilot phase since July 2024 and uses advanced speed cameras and radar speed signs connected to a cloud-based platform to automatically detect speeding violations.
In addition to speeding, SRIS also identifies other offences, including:
* Failure to wear seat belts
* Obscured licence plates
* Use of prohibited window tints
On April 8, just one day after its official launch, SRIS recorded over 259 speeding violations.
