(Kaieteur News) – A 34-year-old woman of Tabatinga, Central Rupununi was jailed for one year and fined $1M on a cybercrime charge, police have confirmed.
Lorian Toney, 34, an ambulance driver of Tabatinga, Central Rupununi was arrested on September 25, 2025 and was charged in connection with an offence under the Cybercrime Act 2018.
The allegation is that Toney used a computer system to humiliate, harass and cause substantial emotional distress in contravention of Section 19(2)(a) of the Cybercrime Act 2018, contrary to Section 19(5)(a) of the said Act, committed on Maxine Hendricks.
On Tuesday, Toney appeared at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court before His Worship Omadatt Chandan where she pleaded Guilty and was fined $1,000,000 GYD along with a sentence of one year imprisonment.
