(Kaieteur News) – The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party is demanding the immediate dismissal of several ranks in Region One and for a criminal investigation to be launched into the incident where a policeman was caught on camera brandishing an AK-47 rifle last week, while threatening to shoot civilians in Port Kaituma, Region One.
Police have since placed the rank under close arrest as they investigate the matter. However, in a statement on Monday WIN said the people of Guyana watched on social media as a drunken Police Constable 26860 Henry went on a rampage with a force-issued AK47 dressed in civilian attire, threatening to shoot and kill civilians. “This which occurred sometime between 11:30hrs on Friday 28th November 2025 and 00:30hrs on Saturday 29th November 2025, has been kept in the dark with an attempted intention to cover up this matter. This issue now leaves many questions unanswered about the GPF standard operational procedures.”
WIN questioned how did this rank get access to the weapon when the station sergeant should be the only custodian of the firearm box keys? “Is there any entry in the official records showing this rank uplifted a firearm, was he briefed and posted with such, or was he even rostered to perform duties at that time? Was there any visit made by the Inspector in charge of the station or the Officer in charge of the subdivision? 4. Was the Commander informed about the incident? If yes. Did he brief the Commissioner? 5. Was this policeman placed under close arrest? There is irrefutable evidence that an attempt was made to cover up this matter.”
According to WIN records show that the commander was informed by the subdivision officer and that the commander gave instructions that no entry about the matter must be made until he directs. “Two days after the incident and neither the commissioner or Home Affairs Minister had knowledge. In light of all these infractions committed by the Regional Division One senior management team, WIN calls for the immediate dismissal of: 1. Senior Superintendent Krishnadat Ramana Commander of Regional Division #1. 2. Subdivision Officer ASP Puran Narine. 3. Station Inspector Urwin Gordon. These ranks reckless and incompetent supervision continue to cast a bad image on the Guyana Police Force and preservation and protection of citizens,” the opposition party said. “Lives could have been lost. It is important to note that one month ago Senior Superintendent Krishnadat Ramana came under scrutiny when SOCU raided the Police Finance Office in Eve Leary for a $23.8 million fraud allegedly involving both the Finance Office and the Mabaruma Police Station in Region 1. Despite investigations, no action was taken against Ramana. WIN calls on the Ministry of Home Affairs to act immediately and remove all corrupt and incompetent officers, as it is clear that lawlessness and impunity are tolerated in the Guyana Police Force,” the statement concluded.
The social media video in circulation shows the rank, dressed in casual clothes and holding the rifle while arguing with another individual. At one point, he threatened to shoot the person he was confronting while pacing up and down the street. During the exchange, two gunshots were heard and several persons, who referred to the rank as “Henry,” attempted to calm him down and eventually got him to walk away.
In a statement issued after the footage began circulating, the Guyana Police Force said, “The Commissioner of Police has immediately ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
The police noted that the rank seen in the video “has since been placed under close arrest and the Office of Professional Responsibility has been instructed to commence a detailed investigation immediately.” According to the GPF, “The contents of the video form part of the ongoing investigation which will determine the full extent of both disciplinary and criminal actions to be taken.” The Force said it remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability and further information will be provided at the appropriate stage as the investigation progresses.
