Kaieteur Sports – Essequibo held their nerves yesterday to steal nail-biter at the Lusignan Ground, upsetting Demerara by 1 wicket in an exciting Women’s ODI encounter as action continued across the East Coast yesterday.
Demerara found themselves in a rough spot after being restricted for just 77 runs in 32 overs, after a brilliant spell from former youth player Cyanna Retemiah who grabbed 3-11 as Shonette Belgrave chipped in with 2-12.

Match MVP Tramaine Marks accepts her award from GCB executive Shaun Massiah after leading with bat and ball for her side yesterday.
Opener Naomi Barkoye (12), Cianna Barkoye (11) and Latisha Johnson (11) were the primary scorers for Demerara, who imploded during their batting innings, with eight of their players failing to reach double-figures.
After match MVP Tramaine Marks was dismissed for a breezy 26 off 27 (4×4) and Kumarie Persaud’s grueling 13 off 41 deliveries helping to somewhat anchor the middle passage of the innings; it took a brave fightback from the last pair of Belgrave and Yonette Welcome to pull off a daring heist.
Belgrave finished unbeaten on 9 while Welcome had 4*, but more importantly showing their composure as they chipped away a double-digit lead in order to scratch past a brilliant bowling outcome from Demerara to end on 78-9 in the 23rd over.
Skipper and off-spinner Kaysia Schultz returned 2-25 from 9 overs but it was the brilliance of another spinner in Latisha Jordan, who bagged 4-25 from just 6 overs which almost pulled things back for Demerara.
Women’s 50-Over cricket continues today with a double-header, featuring Essequibo and Berbice at LBI Ground while the Hinterland Women will be looking to continue their growth when they face Demerara at the Lusignan Ground; with both games set to bowl off from 9:00h respectively, weather permitting. (Kaieteur News) – There was a time when things were used as they were intended. A fork for eating and a bed for sleeping.
