(Kaieteur News) – Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond, has issued a firm directive to all members of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), warning that any rank found with illegal tint on their private vehicles will face disciplinary consequences.
In a strong statement issued on her Facebook page, the minister said all ranks who have tint that does not comply with national regulations and who do not possess a valid tint permit must remove the tint immediately.

Home Affairs Minister, Oneidge Walrond during a visit to the Dem Amstel Police Station back in September.
She stressed that no rank is allowed to reinstall any tint unless a formal application has been made and an approved permit has been granted. Walrond underscored that members of the Police Force must be the first to uphold the law: “Let it be clearly understood that the law applies to everyone equally. Those empowered to enforce the law must be the first to uphold it,” she stated.
Back in October, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo had said that government was moving to streamline vehicle tint permits. According to the Vice President, the Home Affairs Minister had received numerous requests for tint permits. He said the government plans to lift the tint permit requirement by establishing a standardised tint level for regular road users, which will exceed the current 35% limit. A separate, higher tint standard will be set for security forces and diplomats. “Now, everyone wants an exemption. We may just have two levels: one for security forces and diplomats, and another tint level, maybe a little higher than what exists now. There is no exemption, so you can’t run down a minister every day for an exemption permit,” Jagdeo stated.
Under existing laws, applicants for tint permits must submit a letter to the Minister of Home Affairs, along with supporting documents justifying their request. Jagdeo emphasised that the Minister’s time could be better utilised than addressing these permit requests.
