Kaieteur Sports – The final of the Berbice River Cricket Association T20 four-team cricket competition climaxed on Sunday with a nail biting final between Wiruni Conquerors and Sandhill/ Friendship Cavaliers.
The game, which was played at the Sand Hills Ground, lived up to all expectations. Organised by the BRCA with support from The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), the encounter was witnessed by a delegation from the BCB that made the trip up the river.
Wiruni batted first and made 148 for 6 in their 20 overs with Sheldon Bovell 54 and Melroy De Silva 47 being outstanding with the bat. Bowling for Sand Hills there were two wickets each for Michael Caple and Wakar MacKenzie.
In their turn at the crease, Sand Hills give it their best shot with Michael Caple 54 and Conroy Singh 19 leading the fight but eventually fell short reached 141 for 8 in 20 to lose by seven runs.
Bowling for Wiruni – Nelon Thomas snapped up three wickets, while Sheldon Bovell and Sylvester grabbed two each.
Sheldon Bovell for his outstanding all-round performance was adjudged the man of the match.
Earlier in the third-place playoff, Kimbia defeated Fort Nassau by 47 runs.
Kimbia took first strike and reached 108 for 9 in the reduced quota of 12 overs. Raif Flemming 35 and Keron Kertzious also with 35 along with Jonny Leacock 14 led their scoring.
Bowling for Fort Nassau – Rolon Lindie snared three wickets, while Gregory Crandon grabbed two.
In reply, Fort Nassau were held to 61 for 6 in 12overs with Fitzroy Grimmond 12, Eon Taylor and Phillip Grimmond 11 each.
Bowling for Kimbia – Martin Agard led the way with 3 for 3, while Keron Kertzious returned to pick up two.
Melroy DeSilva received a reward for scoring the most runs in the competition.
At the presentation ceremony the teams were address by both President of the BCB, Dr Cecil Beharry and President of the BRCA Jason DenHarte. The both congratulated the winner and wished the other team well in future encounters.
They promised more competitions and other engagements in the future.
