(Kaieteur News) – Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d), Mark Phillips met with the President of the Republic of Suriname, Her Excellency Jennifer Geerlings-Simons on Monday at the Presidential Office in Paramaribo.
Prime Minister Phillips extended warm congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of Guyana, commending Suriname on reaching its Golden Jubilee milestone. The engagement also provided the opportunity for the neighbouring countries to reaffirm their longstanding diplomatic and cultural ties.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation, the Honourable Melvin W.J. Bouva and the Ambassador of Guyana to the Republic of Suriname, HE Virjanand Depoo, were also at the meeting. Prime Minister Phillips and his wife, Mrs Mignon Bowen-Phillips, also joined President Geerlings-Simons at an official luncheon hosted at the Royal Torarica in honour of the 50th Independence anniversary. The event brought together regional officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and key national partners.
