Kaieteur News – A 16-year-old school girl died Friday evening following an accident on the Number 63 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
The child has been identified as Jodea Seline.
Reports are that a minibus, filled with schoolchildren who attended the Regional Inter- Secondary Schools’ Athletic Competition were badly injured when the vehicle toppled. It is unclear how the accident occurred.
However, Commander Region Six, Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed that the teen from Limlair Village, Corentyne, Berbice succumbed to her injuries at the Number 75 Hospital. Her little sister was reportedly in the minibus at the time of the accident.
Several other passengers have been hospitalised. Reports are that the driver of the mini-bus is in a critical state at the hospital.
News of the accident quickly spread across social media with several persons posting that o-positive blood was needed urgently to assist those who were injured in the crash.
The Skeldon Line Path Secondary School on its Facebook Page posted, “URGENT!!! As you are aware, there was an accident involving a bus transporting students from a sister school after the regional sports. At this point, many students are in critical condition.
They need O positive blood! Now is your time to help save a life if you meet the requirements to give blood! Come on, O positive people. Head to the #75 Regional Hospital to donate! Please, please. Reshare.”
