Elderly man killed in hit-and-run
(Kaieteur News) – Police are on the hunt for the driver of a silver motor pick up which struck and killed a 58-year-old man along the Wallers Delight Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
The dead man has been identified as Anand Persaud.
According to police, Persaud lost his life around 18:10h. “Preliminary investigations revealed that an unknown silver motor pickup was proceeding west along the southern side of the roadway when it collided with pedestrian Anand Persaud, 58, of no fixed place of abode,” the police said in a statement on Saturday.
Persaud received injuries to his head and about his body. He was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital by public-spirited citizens where he was pronounced dead.
His body was taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
