Dem Boys Seh…
Kaieteur News – Dem boys seh Region Six had a big Cabinet Outreach this week. But de way dem boys see it, is not an outreach—more like a reach back, like when yuh drop yuh phone behind de bed and got to stretch yuh whole spine to pick it up. Dem Ministers wasn’t going to meet de people; dem was going to retrieve de votes whah run away since 2020.
Dem boys remember when Jagdeo used to do these grand outreach things—truckloads of officials, tents like wedding house, and promises flying like mosquito in rice field. It flop then, and it flopping now. De only difference is de new set smiling more and promising twice. But Berbicians know better. Dem see politicians come and go more than mosquito coils in Canje.
Dem boys seh, is one thing to go pon stage and announce plans. But Region Six done choke with plans! Plans for sugar, plans for jobs, plans for development—plans stack up so high dem could build a bridge to Suriname. Meanwhile de root problem still deh: an economic model whah mek de rich man richer and de poor man pack dem bag and head to Timehri.
Berbice children can’t get wuk. De sugar industry, once de heart and soul of de region, now pon life support—breathing through one tube and praying de doctor don’t sneeze. And every time you feel things might turn around, some politician jump in and start meddling with local authority like is he own kitchen.
Dem boys seh de Cabinet go and promise people land fuh house lots. But tell dem, “A piece of land is not a house.” Yuh still got to find money fuh sand, cement, zinc, blocks, paint, tile, furniture, curtain, rug and de flat-screen TV fuh watch de same politicians mek more promises. Where that money coming from? From the “fastest growing economy in the world”? Berbice still waiting fuh see that speed.
Dem boys seh outreach nice, but what Berbice really want is outcomes. Stop stretching out yuh hand fuh votes and start stretching out solutions that actually wuk. Until then, all dem outreach is pure reach-around.
Talk half. Leff half.
