Officials of the GGDMA and the six small miners
Kaieteur News – The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) continues its assistance programme to help small miners re-enter the industry and to expand operations.
The GGDMA on Monday handed over essential mining equipment to six small-scale miners. The association said it remains committed to the sustainability and growth of the local mining sector noting that they are actively pushing for increased production/declarations.
The official handing-over ceremony, held at the GGDMA Secretariat, is a direct follow-up to the association’s successful Open Day, which was held on Friday, October 10, 2025. The Open Day focused on promoting vital matters relating to declarations and compliance, addressing sectoral challenges and supporting sustainable livelihoods within the mining community.
In a press release the association said six deserving small miners: Melinda Parahoo, Jason De Santos, Dolly Wallace, Clifford Moses, Priscilla Milton, and Rich Miles Williams received a comprehensive package of equipment to help them resume and strengthen their operations. Each recipient received a significant equipment package, including: a complete 4” dredge; a chainsaw; a 2500W generator set; a TCL 5 cubic ft freezer and necessary components such as pipes, hose, impellers, bearing block, housing, and mats.
Additionally, Clifford Moses received a 15 Horsepower Outboard Motor Engine. This initiative was made possible through the donations of Mr. Ronaldo Alphonso, President of the GGDMA, and Mr. Terry Singh, an Executive Member. Three of the recipients were Amerindians from the Middle Mazaruni Area. “This initiative stresses the GGDMA’s dedication to empowering small miners, enabling them to return to work, and strengthening the overall resilience of the sector. Crucially, the support is coupled with the association’s push for responsible and compliant operations,” the release stated.
As a condition to getting the assistance, all small miners receiving the items are required to provide evidence of their gold declarations at the end of the year, ensuring that this investment directly contributes to formal sector reporting and regulatory adherence. “The miners were reminded that they must sell their gold to the Guyana Gold board or licenced dealers and to keep all their records as evidence. The GGDMA believes that empowering miners with tools and promoting compliance are interdependent pillars for a robust and sustainable future. Miners who received the donations expressed their gratitude to the GGDMA,” the release added.
