(Kaieteur News) – The government through the Ministry of Housing – Central Housing and Planning Authority is currently inviting bids for the construction a new four-lane highway which will stretch from Versailles on the West Bank of Demerara to Parika, East Bank Essequibo, Region Three.
This is according to an invitation for bids issued by the ministry. Bids for the project are expected to open on December 22, 2025 at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office.
According to the notice, the project is divided into 17 lots. The ministry stated that the delivery/ construction period for lots 1 to 17 is 20 months.
The Housing Ministry also informed that pre-bid meeting will be held on November 27, November 28, December 9, and December 10 at the CHPA Projects officer boardroom and at the Leonora Stadium parking lot.
The purpose of the meetings is for site visits and to outline evaluation criteria, environmental and social management requirements and all other pertinent information relating to filling out the bid, the ministry noted.
This publication understands that this new highway project forms part of the Schoonord to Parika road link. The project is being built in phases.
While, the highways are aimed at reducing traffic congestion along the West Bank and West Coast corridor, the government had stated previously that it will also stimulate economic growth and open up employment opportunities.
