Kaieteur Sports – Day two of the Bounty Supermarket National Indoor Hockey Championship delivered another round of excitement on Wednesday, as GCC Spare Parts, National Over-40, GCC Vintage, and Saints each recorded key victories to strengthen their positions ahead of the knockout stages.
After an action-packed opening day, the Hikers continued to struggle in the Men’s Division II category, falling 3–2 to GCC Spare Parts. Despite taking a 2–1 lead just before halftime through field goals from Michael Payne and Deheron Wilkinson, the Hikers were unable to hold on. A determined GCC side stormed back with goals from Medroy Scotland (14th minute) and Jayson-Ray Khalil (24th minute) to snatch a dramatic comeback win. The Hikers remain winless as the competition heads into day three.
In the Women’s Over-40 division, the National Women’s Over-40 team delivered a commanding 9–0 victory over the Hikers Women. Maria Munroe led the onslaught with a hat-trick, scoring in the 7th, 15th, and 38th minutes. Captain Kerensa Fernandes and Vanessa Pires each added two goals, while Shebeki Baptiste and Tiffany Solomon also got on the scoresheet to complete the rout.
The Mixed Over-40 category saw GCC Vintage produce a dominant 5–2 win over Old Fort. Kevin Spencer gave GCC the early advantage with goals in the 5th and 10th minutes. Orin Semple and Marcus Fiedtkou added late strikes in the 29th and 30th minutes to seal the comfortable victory, despite Old Fort managing two consolation goals.
In Group ‘B’ First Division action, Saints maintained their winning momentum with a comprehensive 6–0 shutout over GCC Outlaws. Jabril Lovell was the star of the match, netting four goals (13th, 20th, 28th, and 31st minutes), while Shomere Garnett (17th) and Oshazay Savory (40th) rounded off the scoring. Meanwhile, in the Women’s Open division, Old Fort and Saints battled to a hard-fought scoreless draw.
The Bounty Supermarket National Indoor Hockey Championship is organised by the Guyana Hockey Board and continues to deliver top-class action as teams fight for a place in the knockout rounds.
