When tenant start believe he is landlord

(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh some people get a lil space to rent and suddenly start acting like dem buy de property. You give a man a key fuh a small flat, tell he is a temporary arrangement, and next thing you know, he build veranda, plant lil kitchen garden, and calling de place “mine.” He forget who name on de transport.

Is same thing happening wid some of dem big people who get position. Some of dem does be dem who move in and behaving like de office is family estate. Is suh with Guyanese, once dem get a chair, dem does nail it to de floor.

Some of dem nah want move on. Dem don’t want move out, don’t want share, and don’t even want de new boss man to send he own people. Dem forget dem was just there was an invited guest not an owner.

Dem boys seh is like when someone squatting. Years, de owner of de land come and seh, “Time up, pack yuh things.”

But de squatter seh, “This is my ancestral land.” Eh eh! What ancestral land? You was living here on trust, bai.

So dem boys seh, before every place turn into a private estate, leh we remind dem tenants that keys does get collected when time come. Because one fine morning, de rightful landlord gon show up wid new names on de lease — and some of dem tenants gon get evicted, curtains, bougainvillea, and all.
