(Kaieteur News) – A 45-year-old man was killed on Thursday after colliding with two cars along the Rupert Craig Highway, East Coast Demerara.
Police said they are investigating the accident which occurred in the vicinity of Pump Road, and which resulted in the death of Jomo Peters of Haslington New Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
According to reports, the accident involved motorcar PYY 4296 driven by a 21-year-old female; motorcar PAE 9879 driven by a 28-year-old female; and motorcycle CR 2701 which was driven by Peters.
According to reports, Peters was proceeding east along the highway, allegedly at a fast rate, and without the use of a safety helmet. Police said he was overtaking the eastern line of traffic (while the ‘third lane’ was in progress), when the left side handle bar of his motorcycle collided into the front left side and rear-view mirror of motorcar PYY 4296 which was proceeding west along the same road, causing him to lose control. Peters further crashed into the left side front portion of motor car PAE 9879 which was also proceeding west.
Peters was flung onto the median after his collision with the last car. He sustained multiple injuries about his head and body.
EMT’s were summoned to the scene, where he was pronounced dead. His body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Breathalyser tests conducted on both drivers, showed no trace of alcohol. Both drivers are in custody assisting with further investigations.
