Kaieteur News – A miner identified as 27-year-old, Mark Anthony Williams of Morashee Village, East Bank Essequibo, is now dead after he was struck in the head by a tree.
In a statement police said that an investigation has been launched into the fatal incident which occurred on Tuesday at “a gold mining camp at 13 Miles, Mango Landing, Upper Demerara River”.
So far it has been revealed that Williams was working in a mining pit along with his colleagues when high winds and heavy rain commenced, it was during this time that a tree reportedly fell into the said pit, causing the miner to receive injuries to the head.
His body was retrieved from the pit and it was discovered that he was in an unconscious state and later found to be unresponsive. The body was escorted out of the area to a mortuary for examination and official pronouncement as investigations continue.
