Concern regarding religious bias and cultural inclusion in schools

Dear Editor,

Permit me a space in your newspaper as a concerned parent, hoping for a better and more inclusive educational environment for all our children.

It has come to my attention that, in some classrooms, certain teachers appear to promote one religion over another as the superior or preferred faith.

As a nation known for its religious and cultural diversity, our schools should be spaces where every child feels equally respected and represented, regardless of faith or background. When personal beliefs are shared in ways that elevate one religion over another, it not only contradicts the principles of equality and fairness but can also have a lasting emotional impact on young minds.

I respectfully urge the school boards and the Ministry to:

Reiterate to all educators the importance of maintaining religious neutrality in the classroom.
Encourage fair and balanced inclusion of all major faiths and cultural practices in the school calendar and curriculum.
Provide professional development or guidelines to ensure teachers understand and uphold these values.

We reside in a diversified country of different races, beliefs and practices. As such, my intention in raising this matter is not to criticize but to help strengthen the values of mutual respect and unity that our education system should reflect.

They do that in other countries with a majority religion also.
Schools are always closed for that Religious holidays, especially NYC schools,
likewise, the business owners also close their operations during the same
religious holidays. Recently, NYC Schools has days off for other religious
holidays- Diwali, Eid, Kwanza for etc. since the children stays home prior.
