(Kaieteur News) – A JetBlue flight rescheduled its take-off time on Saturday after its crew and passengers were left stuck in a traffic jam at Soesdyke Junction, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Some 50 passengers including crew members reportedly showed up late for the flight bound for New York.
Take off from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) at Timerhi, EBD, was scheduled for 3 PM and many were worried that they would have missed their flight but JetBlue B61916 accommodated them.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force stated that traffic flow along the Soesdyke stetch was restored around 15:20 hrs. – 20 mins. after the flight’s scheduled take off time.
Priority, according to the Guyana’s Traffic Chief, Mahendra Singh, was given to outgoing passengers and flight crews.
Traffic ranks are on site to ensure that the traffic continues flowing smoothly.
The traffic chaos was reportedly caused by ongoing road-works along the EBD roadway. Kaieteur News understands the traffic was at a standstill for hours.
The Traffic Chief said that to ease the congestion “police escorted materials to the work site to aid with the speedy completion of the road works.

Adjustments needed, if not previously allowed.
Building roads causes headaches for the contractors/crew, and the driving
public. Sections of roads, traffic have to be diverted, workers properly protected
by concrete barricades. That is during the DAY.
NIGHT construction is the norm everywhere, with less traffic, same safeguards
in place. START NIGHT CONSTRUCTION ASAP- stopping work 5.00 am
to allow free flow of traffic, heading to schools, office, airport etc.
Minimal work performed at construction areas in day.
