St. John the Baptist Primary goal scorers (L-R) Aaron Christian, Neymar Edwards, Alex Pearson, Orlando Deeges and Jarrell Schroeder
(Kaieteur Sports) – The 12th Annual Courts Optical Pee Wee Under-11 Football Tournament moved into high gear on Saturday, with third-round action wrapping up at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue. With the knockout stages looming, teams battled fiercely for a spot in the final sixteen, producing several thrilling encounters and surprise upsets.
Among the standout performers were tournament favourites St John the Baptist (SJTB), West Ruimveldt Primary, and Potaro Primary, all of whom extended their unbeaten runs.
St John the Baptist Primary (SJTB) continued their commanding form with a 7-0 demolition of Genesis Academy. Prolific striker Aaron Christian added two early goals (2nd, 8th minutes) to remain the tournament’s leading scorer. Neymar Edwards dazzled with a solo effort in the 17th minute, while Alex Pearson, Orlando Deeges, and Jarrel Schroeder rounded out the scoring to leave Genesis rooted to the bottom of the table.

St. Pius Primary and Clonbrook Primary featured in a five-goal thriller during the high-octane Round three action yesterday at MoE
West Ruimveldt Primary also delivered a dominant display, handing region two’s Charity Primary their first loss in a 5-0 rout. Ceon Rajkumer was the star, netting a well-taken hat-trick, while teammate Yanique Cadogan added another. Charity compounded their woes with an own goal, sealing a forgettable day for the Essequibo side.
Region eight, Potaro Primary edged Redeemer Primary 1-0 in a tense affair, with Lamon Telemaque’s 29th-minute strike proving the difference in a defensively gritty performance.
Meanwhile, Agatash Primary stunned Leonora Primary 5-0, thanks to a hat-trick from Justin Calvin (3’, 19’, 25’) and a brace from Carlos Paul. The loss marked Leonora’s first of the tournament.
Smith Memorial Primary also picked up their first win of the competition in dramatic fashion, narrowly defeating Winfer Garden 1-0 courtesy of Derick Holder’s lone goal.
On the other side of the pitch, St Gabriel’s Primary impressed with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Georgetown International Academy (GIA). A brace from Nathan Melville (6’, 9’) set the tone, while Zion Hickerson and Jalen Simon also got on the scoresheet. Credit also goes to St Gabriel’s backline, who held firm to preserve the clean sheet.
St Theressa Primary also broke their winless streak, defeating Ann’s Grove Primary 2-0 with goals from I-Shent Oudkerk and Rodwell Lindy.
Later on, Stella Maris Primary routed Batavia Primary 5-0 behind a first-half hat-trick from Clevon Jacobs, with Kenyeatha Junor adding two more to complete the rout.
Marian Academy returned to winning ways, securing a 2-0 victory over St Stephen’s Primary after back-to-back draws in previous rounds. St Pius Primary edged Clonbrook Primary in a five-goal thriller, winning 3-2. Meanwhile, Sophia Primary and St Aloysius played to a draw, and Tucville Primary remained unbeaten after receiving a walkover win due to St Mary’s Primary’s no-show.
As the tournament approaches the elimination phase, the competition has become fierce, with teams jostling for position in the much-anticipated quarterfinals. Round four (round-of-16) action promises even more excitement next Saturday as the young talents continue to impress.
The 2025 Courts Optical Pee Wee Under-11 Football Tournament is sponsored by Courts Optical with support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, National Sports Commission, MVP Sports, SkyTec Enterprise, Demerara Mutual, and Sterling Products Limited. The tournament is also officially sanctioned by the Ministry of Education.
