(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Home Affairs will be spending an additional $118 million to complete works on the new Juvenile Holding Centre at Sophia, Georgetown.
According to information provided on the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) website, the contract has since been awarded to Pacific Service System to the tune of $118,518,613.
The reconstruction of the holding centre began in 2024 to the tune of $243.1 million.
This publication understands that the centre was established on May 1, 2011 with an emphasis on rehabilitation and reintegration of juveniles into his or her community.
It also provides opportunities for youth offenders to develop positive changes in their behaviour and attitudes; to allow for the development of skills to reduce recidivism and to help juveniles lead productive and law-abiding lifestyles, upon reintegration into society.
