Scotiabank, STEMGuyana empower students with financial literacy skills through Learning Pods Programme

(Kaieteur News) – Scotiabank Guyana has strengthened its partnership with STEMGuyana by introducing financial literacy workshops to students enrolled in the charity’s Learning Pods Programme.
Over the past two weeks, the Bank hosted both in-person and virtual sessions designed to give young learners a solid foundation in financial basics, including budgeting, saving, and investing. In a press release the bank said launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, STEMGuyana’s Learning Pods Programme was created to combat learning loss among school-aged children. It presently provides after-school enrichment in Science, Mathematics, English, Technology, Robotics, and Coding for primary and secondary students across the country. Through Scotiabank’s partnership, 117 students from five Learning Pods – Parika, Albouystown, Angoy, St. Ignatius, and Tabating are now also gaining critical financial and digital literacy skills.
Shellon Garner, Manager of Finance at Scotiabank and lead facilitator of the workshops, shared the following after an in-person workshop at the Albouystown Learning Pod “The workshop focused on practical financial skills and the participants responded with enthusiasm and curiosity. Many left the session with greater confidence in managing their finances and a strong determination to apply what they learned to improve their future and communities.”

Karen Abrams, Executive Director of STEMGuyana, added: ““Scotiabank Guyana’s partnership with STEMGuyana is expanding what’s possible for our Learning Pod students. In Albouystown, learners receive two days of academic support and one day of technology education each week, and the recent financial literacy workshop added practical lessons in saving, budgeting, and smart decision-making. These experiences help our young people become confident, responsible, and future-ready.”
