Kaieteur News – Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Waldron on Wednesday charged the leadership of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to “deal with corruption firmly and be fearless when confronting it”.
In press release, Waldron told the GPF top brass that “the time for decisive leadership in the police force is now.”

Home Affairs Minister, Oneidge Waldron addressing the top brass of the Guyana Police Force on Wednesday.
She reportedly called for stronger discipline, integrity and accountability in the Guyana Police Force.
The minister reminded the police officials that while the government has delivered record investment in infrastructure, mobility, technology, and training for the force since 2020, “resources alone cannot protect the reputation of the institution.”
“Only integrity, discipline, and leadership can,” she reportedly told the force’s leadership.
She also warned against tolerance of misconduct, reminding them that there must show zero tolerance for corruption.
“Leadership must be by example. If discipline is weak at the top, it will collapse below. Tighten discipline, strengthen performance, and rebuild trust,” Waldron told the force.
She further highlighted the challenges that the force will have to undertake such border security, increased connectivity, and the demands of a rapidly growing economy.
Waldron urged police commanders to ensure that resources translate into outcomes where communities feel secure, criminals face the full weight of the law, and the uniform commands pride and respect.
She said public safety and trust depend effective leadership while noting “The people will not wait, and neither will I.”
