Kaieteur Sports – With just three days remaining before kickoff, the Petra Organisation hosted the official ball distribution and team briefing for participating schools in the 12th Annual Courts Optical Pee Wee Boys’ Under-11 Football Tournament.
The event, held at the National Library, was attended by several schools along with teachers and officials. It is widely regarded as the final step before the tournament’s official kickoff, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 27 at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, located on Carifesta Avenue.
As is tradition, the tournament will begin with a colourful March Past ceremony at 10:00 a.m., followed by the kickoff of the first round of matches at 11:00 a.m. on the same day.
Courts Optical has once again reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and sports across the region, returning as the title sponsor for yet another season. The tournament is also backed by several key partners, including the Ministry of Education, Sterling Products Limited, and Demerara Mutual Fire and General Insurance, among others.
This year’s tournament will feature 32 teams from various regions including Linden, Bartica, East Berbice, West Coast Berbice, East Bank, West Coast, Essequibo, Barima-Waini, and Georgetown.
Demerara Mutual continues to support the tournament, not only through sponsorship but by contributing to player safety and community development. Representing the company at the team briefing was Marketing Manager, Oceola Van Doimen, who delivered an inspiring address.

Several schools attended the 12th Annual Pee Wee Football team briefing and ball distribution exercise held yesterday at the National Library’s Conference room
“Seeing so many schools and regions represented fills our hearts with immense pride. This tournament truly embodies the spirit of One Guyana through sports and community development,” she said.
To the young players, she offered words of encouragement: “This tournament is all about having fun, making new friends, and discovering the excitement of teamwork. For families and educators, events like this are invaluable, they keep our children active, engaged, and offer life lessons beyond the classroom.”
She concluded with a nod to the shared values of both football and life: “Football teaches us important lessons — discipline, perseverance, and respect — values we hold dear in how we serve our customers across the nation.”
Meanwhile, Courts Optical Chain Manager, Richard Simpson, shared his personal reflections on the significance of the tournament.
“I personally look forward to this time of year. Not just as a sponsor, but as a parent. Over six weeks, we get to witness some of the best young footballers showcasing their talent in a structured and well-organised platform.”
He added: “It’s incredibly fulfilling to be part of something so impactful. A lot of organisations support major events, but this is where it all begins. We have the chance to help shape the future, and that starts with our youth.”
The tournament officially kicks off this Saturday, September 27, at the MoE Ground. Come and witness 32 teams from across the country battle over six thrilling weeks for the ultimate U11 crown.
