Bowlers slice through hapless Kings, as Warriors seal 14-run win

Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Amazon Warriors secured their spot in this weekend’s final of the 2025 CPL, following a 14-run win against the St.Lucia Kings during last night’s Qualifier played at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

Warriors posted a modest 156 all out in the 20th over, with Ben McDermott (34), Shai Hope (32) and Romario Shepherd (21) getting out the blocks.

Inform opener, Quentin Sampson and pinch-striker Dwaine Pretorius both hit identical scores of 17, as not much came from a pretty ordinary Warriors batting outing.

Kings had a brilliant bowling performance, led by leg-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi who returned 3-33, alongside pacers David Wiese (2-14) and Alzarri Joseph (2-34).

Kings had a nightmare start to the chase, losing their top 3 batsmen for just 12 runs thanks to venomous starts by Shepherd and Pretorius.

Apart from bowler Tymal Mills’ 30 off 18 balls, only Roston Chase (18) and Aaron Jones (10) contributed with significant runs.

The real star for the Kings was Khary Pierre who 50 off 39 with 5 sixes was the highlight of the innings, while providing some much-needed entertainment on the way.

Left-arm Gudakesh Motie followed his 5-Fer a few games ago with 4-30 while Imran Tahir (2-22), Shepherd (1-15) and Pretorius (2-24) played huge supporting roles.

Warriors had a tough start as they found scoring difficult by the team 10 overs ended, being reduced to 77-2 following a decent first power-play.

Thanks to the big-hitting abilities of their all-rounders in Shepherd and Pretorius, the Warriors were able to salvage a difficult final half of the innings on their way to a psychologically good total.
