Govt. to help rebuild Eastville home destroyed by fire

Kaieteur News – The Government of Guyana has pledged to help rebuild the home of an Eastville Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara family that was destroyed by fire last week, Attorney General, Anil Nandlall has announced.
In a Facebook post, Nandlall said that on behalf of the Government of Guyana, he visited the family whose home was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning.
He said he commiserated with the family on behalf of His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the Government, “and offered assistance to the family in respect of their immediate needs as well as regarding helping to reconstruct their destroyed abode,” Nandlall said in the post.

He noted that the fire of unknown origin took place last Saturday and completely destroyed the dwelling of the family consisting of husband, wife, three adult children and grandchildren.
Only last week, over 30 people were rendered homeless after a fire broke out on James Street, Albouystown destroying five homes in the process.
The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) has since activated a shelter at the Six Head Lewis Gym to accommodate the displaced, providing temporary housing and personal supplies. Reports are that government has promised to pay three months’ rent for the affected families until they get back on their feet.
