Kaieteur News – A 48-year-old fisherman who was busted on Tuesday with 25.6 pounds of cannabis and a quantity of ecstasy pills while enroute to Lethem, begged police to set him free because, according to him, ‘it is just a lil hustle.”
Police identified the man as Clive Thornhill of Lethem. He was arrested around 09:30 hrs. after police stopped and searched a bus that was enroute to Lethem, Region Nine.
Thornhill was one among three passengers on board the bus.
“Police conducted a normal routine search of the driver and the three passengers, who were told to identify their belongings, which they did” police stated while adding that nothing illegal was found on them.
However, when they searched Thornhill, they found a large sum of cash in his black haversack in various currencies.
“…He had in his possession, $703,180 cash (Guyana currency), 1,798 Reais (Brazilian currency), 3,260 Cuban dollars, and $1,137 United States dollars” the Guyana Police Force reported.
Police then decided to search his other belongings, a white cardboard box and a white 10-gallon bucket that were on the minibus.
In the box and bucket police found twelve transparent bulky parcels of cannabis. Two small transparent plastic bags containing 40 suspected ecstasy pills were also found.
Police also searched a red five-gallon bucket (also belonging to Clive Thornhill), packed on the rack atop the minibus and found more bulky parcels of cannabis.
“Thornhill was told of the allegation of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and was cautioned, and he said: “Sir give yuh boy a chance, is a lil hustle, tek the money”, police said.
Thornhill was arrested and escorted to the Lethem Police Station along with the drugs police seized from him
He remains in custody pending further investigations.
