Kaieteur News – A 20-year-old orthopedic technician was arrested on Thursday in connection with the unauthorised release of a video depicting Lolita ‘Lola Doll’ Callender receiving emergency care at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Police are investigating the ‘publication or transmission of an image of the private area of a person’ on September 6, 2025, at the GPHC. A cell phone recorded video of Callender receiving treatment at the hospital quickly made its rounds on social media. Callender appeared to be naked.
The technician has reportedly admitted to recording the video on his mobile device but denied posting it on Facebook, telling investigators that he sent it via WhatsApp to his ex-girlfriend. The man claims the video began circulating on social media thereafter, at which point he deleted it from his phone.
Law enforcement officials have since seized the suspect’s cellphone for forensic analysis by the Cybercrimes Unit, and efforts are underway to locate his ex-girlfriend.
The GPHC in a statement confirmed that an orthopedic technician had been identified and that internal investigations had commenced immediately upon discovering the incident. The hospital emphasised that the individual was not scheduled for duty during the occurrence while announcing that the matter was referred to the Guyana Police Force for legal action under the relevant cybercrime legislation.
The GPHC reiterated its policy prohibiting photography or video recording within its facilities without explicit authorisation from management. Breaches of this policy constitute violations of patient privacy, institutional policy, professional ethics, and the trust patients place in the organisation.
The hospital expressed regret regarding the incident and offered apologies to the affected patient and her family, affirming its commitment to upholding the dignity and privacy of those seeking care.
“Safeguarding the dignity, privacy, and well-being of our patients remains our highest priority, and we will continue to take all necessary measures to uphold these standards,” the GPHC stated.
The investigation into the leaked video of Callender also coincides with inquiries into her attempted murder.
On September 7, Kaieteur News reported that Callender was shot about eight times outside her Texas Square, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown home. The shooting occurred at 23:35h on September 6.
Callender, 33, was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for treatment. She was shot to her neck, face, hands and right leg, by a man on a motorcycle, police said.
“Information received that she was shot in her motorcar, by a male on a motorcycle, in front of her house,” police said.
Early Sunday morning, police informed that a suspect is in custody assisting with the investigations. That person was not identified. Subsequently, a wanted bulletin was issued for businessman Paul Daby Jr., also known as Randell in connection with the shooting. He surrendered on Monday in the company of his attorney.
On Thursday, police released Daby Jr. on $1M bail after the statutory detention period of 72 hours expired; he is subject to strict reporting conditions.
Days prior to Callender’s shooting, she had claimed in a Facebook live that there might be a hit out for her. She even suggested a motive claiming that it might be connected to a back and forth (buse-out) she had with someone’s girlfriend.
