Kaieteur News – Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken on Wednesday said that members of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) are fully prepared for the upcoming elections and that his ranks will be in every region, not to interfere but to keep things in line.
“…as we prepare for general and regional elections in September 1, it is timely for all citizens to be reminded of three key points.
This is important, an important moment for our country, a time for all of us to show the world that Guyana is a peaceful, respectful and a united nation,” he said.
The Commissioner explained that the Force is responsible for the country’s internal security and it is fully prepared for the elections.
There will be police presence in all of the 10 administrative regions.
Hicken explained that the police will be there not to interfere but to protect the constitutional rights of citizens, so that they may be able to peacefully and safely participate in the elections. “…the role of the Guyana Police Force is to maintain order… The Force is trained, prepared and committed to treating everyone fairly. Now, let it be clearly understood any attempt to create disorder, intimidate others, or break the law will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.”
