12 charged in M&CC’s crackdown on illegal dumping

(Kaieteur News) – Director of Solid Waste Management, Walter Narine, has confirmed to Kaieteur News that a total of 12 persons have now been apprehended and charged under the Mayor and City Council’s (M&CC) ongoing enforcement campaign against unlawful dumping in the capital.

The enforcement push, executed by the City Constabulary Anti-Littering Unit through targeted operations and nightly stakeouts, aims to curb indiscriminate garbage disposal across commercial and residential corridors in Georgetown.

Among the latest individuals processed by the unit are five individuals who were placed on $20,000 bail each, Yolanda Garnette, 124 Middle Road, Buxton, Andrew Weeks, 19th Tuschen Housing Scheme, Mark DeAbreu, 124 Lombard Street, Farmer Gaine, 112 Regent Street, Gowkarran Singh, 81 East Second Street, Met-en-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara.

These five defendants are expected to make their formal appearances at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 30^th September, 2026, to answer charges of littering, contrary to municipal environmental and public health regulations.

City officials maintain zero tolerance for offenders, urging citizens and business operators to utilise authorised waste disposal services to keep the capital clean.
