GFF teams up with FIFAe to launch first-ever Esports League
Guyana enters the digital football arena with pathway to FIFAe World Cup 2025
Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has officially stepped into the world of esports, announcing the launch of the GFF eSports League in partnership with FIFAe.
The groundbreaking initiative will give local gamers the opportunity to compete internationally, with the ultimate prize being a spot at the FIFAe World Cup 2025™ in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Unveiled yesterday, the league will feature two competitive formats; GFF eSports League – Console (2v2, eFootball™ by KONAMI) and GFF eSports League – Mobile (1v1, eFootball™ by KONAMI).
This marks a historic first for Guyana, blending the nation’s football passion with digital innovation and opening a new frontier for young gamers.
Tournament Structure and Key Dates
Console (2v2): Registration runs from August 26 – September 5, 2025. Matches kick off Saturday, September 6 at 7:00 PM.
Mobile (1v1): Registration runs from August 26 – September 12, 2025. Matches begin Saturday, September 13 at 7:00 PM.
All competitions will be held virtually, with players participating from home using their own consoles or mobile devices. Eligibility requires participants to be at least 16 years old and holders of a Guyanese passport.
From these domestic trials, the best players will move on to the FIFAe Regional Online Qualifiers in October, where they will battle against regional counterparts for a place at the World Cup finals in December.
The GFF emphasized that the initiative is more than just gaming; it’s about development and opportunity.
“Through our collaboration with FIFAe, Guyanese youth now have the chance to compete internationally, build digital skills, and represent their country on the world stage. It is a proud moment for the Federation and for Guyana,” the release stated.
By offering both console and mobile competitions, the GFF aims to make esports accessible to all eligible gamers, whether equipped with a high-end gaming setup or a mobile phone. The Federation also highlighted that esports fosters discipline, teamwork, and digital literacy, skills that extend beyond the screen.
