Kaieteur News – A Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara (ECD) man, on Tuesday, was granted $50,000 bail when he appeared at the Vigilance Magistrates’ Court to answer two counts of break and enter and larceny charges.
The accused, 38-year-old Travis John of Lot 61 North Melanie Damishana, ECD appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce who read the charges to him.
John pleaded guilty to the charges which allege that between August 3 and 9, 2025 at Melanie Damishana, he entered the home of Ingrid Archer and stole $355,000.
It is also alleged that on August 10, 2025 at the said address, John committed the crime again, this time stealing $365,000.
The court was told that on August 2, 2025, the victim realised that she misplaced the keys to her home but found a way to secure the premises as she was heading out.
The following day, Archer left her home and went to church but upon returning, she discovered that the money was missing and the door was not the same way she left it. A report was made to the police. A statement was subsequently taken from the accused brother’s Maxwell Wayne. Wayne reportedly told police that he saw his brother leaving Archer’s home.
The prosecution did not object to bail being granted to the accused but pleaded that he has no contact with his brother as he is a key witness in the crime. The prosecution told the court the stolen money was not recovered.
Bail was granted and the matter adjourned to October 14, 2025.
