(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Police Force is investigating an alleged attempt to commit murder following an incident in which a 59-year-old was reportedly set on fire at her home at Hampton Court, Essequibo Coast, on Thursday.
According to a Guyana Police Force press release, the incident occurred at about 12:30hrs and involved the woman and her 68-year-old husband, a security guard, both of Hampton Court.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman was at home when she was allegedly set on fire during an incident involving her husband.
Police said a nearby resident heard the woman screaming and rushed to her assistance, managing to extinguish the flames.
The woman was subsequently taken to the Lima Regional Hospital, where she was admitted with injuries to various parts of her body. Her condition is listed as stable.
The 68-year-old man was subsequently arrested and remains in Police custody.
The Guyana Police Force said investigations are ongoing.
