Kaieteur News – A 29-year-old businessman was on Monday released on $100,000 bail for discharging a loaded firearm with intent.
The accused, Xavier Scott, was hauled before senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Scott pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on August 18, 2025, at Meadowbrook Garden, Georgetown, he discharged a loaded firearm at Ronaldo Gilbert with intent to harm or disfigure him.
The prosecution objected to bail, pointing out that the men are known to each other.
It added that the issue stemmed from a misunderstanding between the two. On the day in question, the defendant approached the victim and discharged several rounds.
Gilbert took off, and the defendant chased after him.
The court heard that the incident was captured on video and the prosecution believes that the defendant’s motive was to kill the victim.
Scott was represented by attorney Everton Singh-Lammy.
The lawyer questioned whether his client was being changed for attempted murder because of one of the objections made by the prosecution.
Magistrate Daly released Scott on $100,000 with conditions that he stays 300ft away from Gilbert and he is also required to report to the East La Penitence Police Station every two weeks to the officer in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The matter was adjourned to September 15, 2025.
