Dear Editor,
I write as a concerned resident of Plantation, Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara (ECD) regarding the ongoing water crisis that has been affecting our community for more than a week.
During this time, no water has been coming through the main pipes.
From my understanding, the issue arose when road works in the area allegedly caused damage to the pipelines, leading to this prolonged disruption.
For households equipped with black water tanks, the situation, though inconvenient, has been somewhat manageable.
However, for residents without such storage facilities, daily life has become a tremendous struggle.
Even for those with tanks, the water supply has since been depleted.
In an attempt to provide relief, the fire service distributed water in the area last evening, but residents were subjected to strict limitations on the amount they could collect.
Even after 1 a.m., residents were still out on the streets, trying to secure whatever water they could from the truck.
It was heartbreaking to witness families with no tanks running with just a few buckets in hand, desperate for something as basic as water.
While I acknowledge the efforts being made to assist, the uncertainty remains troubling.
How long will this situation persist? In this day and age, is it not possible to address such an issue more swiftly and effectively?
Surely, contractors should be required to follow established procedures and protocols to prevent incidents like these from occurring in the first place.
The current state of affairs is not only inconvenient but also unsustainable for the residents of Plantation Little Diamond.
We urgently need clarity, accountability, and a reliable timeline as to when normal water supply will be restored.
Sincerely,
A concerned resident
