Dear Editor,
It is alleged the fatal fall of the young jockey at the horse race meet may be as a result of poor track and lighting conditions (SN August 18). This, it would be posited, is a clear case of safety not being given due attention.
With the heavy rains recently, it had to be observed carefully the conditions of the track in the fading light and if conditions were not up to standard then the event should have concluded. The management of the event failed terribly in this aspect: safety.
Too often safety is not given the paramountcy it deserves until something dreadful happens.
Going forward, no horse race meeting should be held at the venue until all round conditions are markedly improved and up to standard with safety being central.
My condolences to the grieving family and friends.
Regards,
Shamshun Mohamed
