Kaieteur News – The Ministry of Home Affairs, over the weekend, commissioned over $405 million in police infrastructures in Region Nine.
The facilities were commissioned by Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn, Deputy Commissioner ‘Operations’ Mr. Errol Watts, Regional Division #9 Commander Superintendent Mohamed Ally, Regional Chairman Bryan Allicock, and other officials.
The newly commissioned facilities are the Annai Police Station, North Rupununi which was constructed at a cost of $99,949,058; the Karasabai Police Station, South Pakaraimas which was reconstructed at a cost of $35,476,160; the Lethem Police Station, Central Rupununi which was constructed at a cost of $171,411,810; and the Zara Computer Centre located at Lethem Central which was built at a cost of $98,645,668.
Delivering brief remarks, Minister Benn emphasised the importance of modern police facilities in strengthening public safety, building community trust, and reducing crime. He further highlighted the recruitment of more Amerindian police officers in Region 9 as a key step toward inclusive and representative security services.
Addressing the gathering also was Mr. Watts who underscored the ongoing infrastructure improvements across the Guyana Police Force and stressed the importance of delivering high-quality service.

Upon request of a new vehicle and an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) for the Annai Police Station to improve community response, Watts assured that this request would be granted.
Speaking also was the regional commander, Mohamed Ally, who provided updates on crime and traffic matters in the region, assuring residents that the police is working closely with communities to maintain safety.
“He also noted that the Zara Computer Centre will provide free computer training for youths and adults, enhancing digital literacy and supporting educational development in Region 9,” the ministry stated.
This publication understands that at the ceremonies, the minister and his team handed over a number of safety helmets to the traffic department and sports gear to the Lethem Police Station.
