Dear Editor,
The recent gruesome accident on the Linden Highway, which claimed the lives of three persons, including a child, has left me deeply shaken.
I run the Behavior Modification Facility at Loo Creek, which means I travel that road several times each week—sometimes several times a day. Very often, I make the journey at night, and each time I do, I am fearful. Driving on the Linden Highway after dark or in the rain is nothing short of terrifying.
The dangers are well known. Many drivers show little regard for traffic discipline. Trucks carrying sand, lumber, and other goods frequently break down and are left unattended on the roadway, without reflectors or warnings. These vehicles become death traps for unsuspecting motorists. Add to this the lack of proper signage, and it truly feels like gambling with your life each time you use that road.
Something must be done. I recommend that signs be posted along the highway displaying Highway Patrol contact numbers. This would allow any driver or passerby to call for help when a vehicle breaks down. Patrols could then place reflective cones, tow disabled vehicles, and provide urgent assistance—steps that could save countless lives.
The Linden Highway is not just a road; it is a lifeline for families, workers, and communities. We cannot continue to accept preventable tragedies. Action is urgently needed.
Respectfully,
Wendell Jeffrey, Pastor
