Dear Residents and Fellow Lindeners,
Following an internal review and reports from our field personnel, the management of Linden Electricity Company Inc. (LECI) confirms that the power outage which occurred on August 10, 2025, affecting the Wismar area, originated in the Wisroc vicinity, near the Wisburg Secondary School.
The cause of the outage was identified as a utility pole belonging to One Communication (formerly Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company – GTT), which fell onto a power line owned and operated by the Linden Utility Services Co-op Society Limited (LUSCSL). This incident resulted in a total power outage across Wismar.
In light of ongoing public discourse and speculation, LECI finds it necessary to address and dispel several misconceptions circulating in the community. Any suggestion or implication that LECI deliberately orchestrated, facilitated, or contributed to this outage is false, defamatory, and entirely without merit.
LECI bears no responsibility for this incident, as it stemmed from a third-party infrastructure failure that falls outside our control and jurisdiction. These assertions are not only factually inaccurate but also represent a serious mischaracterization of our company’s values, operational integrity, and longstanding commitment to professional service delivery.
LECI remains fully committed to the safety, reliability, and continuous supply of electricity to all residents of Linden serving both the Wismar and Mackenzie shores without discrimination.
Upon initial notification reported by one of our employees residing in the affected area, LECI management immediately contacted the engineer at LUSCSL to relay the critical information. We also proactively recommended the isolation of the affected zone to expedite power restoration to other parts of Wismar, including Burnham Drive, where a public event organized by the APNU was scheduled.
These actions highlight LECI’s proactive and impartial response to service interruptions and reinforce our unwavering commitment to all residents, irrespective of political affiliation.
Furthermore, we wish to emphasize that the public update issued on our official Facebook page was done voluntarily and independently by LECI management. This was not in response to any external instruction, pressure, or coercion.
As a responsible and accountable stakeholder in the Region 10 electricity sector, LECI will continue to honour its fiduciary duty to communicate transparently and accurately with the public ensuring the prevention of misinformation and the preservation of public trust.
Fellow Lindeners’, we trust this statement provides clarity regarding the recent incident. The LECI remains steadfast in its commitment to serving the people of Region 10 with integrity, professionalism, and transparency.
Regards,
Management
Linden Electricity Company Inc. (LECI)
