Dear Editor,
When I first heard of oil discoveries on our “foreshore” and the manner in which they went about harnessing its value; I wrote my first question: Have we ceded the foreshore? Never got an answer.
What unfolded is the horror some brag about. I went to google map to see what the Prime Minister was talking about as he introduced a cadre of a new batch of Marine Officers and decided to mention the area of our EEZ.
It was not convincing. There is need for clarity of the area with demarcations publications printed thereon.
We know there are any number of shipping carriers moving the substance of our earth and we know not who they are and this is without proprietary concern.
When anyone earns money by way of sale or service the TAX of VAT is applied.
Those shippers who earn income from our natural wealth cannot escape without paying VAT not less than current rate. This must be implemented without delay.
I cannot expect any citizen to turn their backs on this bonanza.
Sincerely,
John De Barros
