Deputy Mayor’s Cup heads into crucial Round-of-16 tonight
Road Warriors ready to compete for Quarter final spot.
Kaieteur Sports – The stage is set for knockout drama as the Deputy Mayor’s Cup Seven-a-Side Football Tournament charges into its Round of 16 today at the Eve Leary Ground, Kingston, Georgetown. Sixteen of Guyana’s top footballing villages and wards are ready to battle for a coveted place in the quarterfinals.
The competition, which kicked off last Friday, will feature a stacked lineup of teams including Pouderoyen, Albouystown, Pele, Madrid, Mocha, Liliendaal, Stabroek Ballers, Road Warriors, Bent Street ‘A’ and ‘B’, Uitvlugt, Eagles, Police, Soesdyke, Back Circle ‘B’ and Gladiators.
The tournament will conclude on Friday, August 22, with an action-packed final night featuring the last eight teams in a high-stakes showdown.
Today’s Fixtures and Path to the Quarters:
- Pouderoyen vs Albouystown – Winner to face the victor of Bent Street ‘B’ vs Uitvlugt
- Pele vs Madrid (6:30 p.m.) – Winner to meet the winner of Bent Street ‘A’ vs Eagles
- Mocha vs Liliendaal – Paired with the winner of Police vs Soesdyke for the third quarterfinal
- Stabroek Ballers vs Stewartville – Winner to face the victor of Back Circle vs Gladiators in the final quarterfinal slot
The grand finale evening kicks off at 6:00 p.m. with the quarterfinals, followed by semifinals and the championship match starting at 10:00 p.m.
Prizes and Awards
The champions will receive $500,000 cash, hampers (compliments of Ricks & Sari), and the winner’s trophy, runners-up will secure $300,000 cash along with respective trophy, third place $200,000 cash and fourth place $100,000 cash and trophy in tow.
There’s more than just team glory at stake. The tournament’s Top Goal Scorer/MVP will ride away with a brand-new super motorcycle donated by Guyana Police Force Top Cop Clifton Hicken, along with the Acting CoP Ravindrauth Budhram Trophy. The Most Disciplined Team will be awarded the Assistant Commissioner of Police Errol Watts Trophy.
With strong support from the top brass of the GPF, organiser Lennox Arthur promises a night of skill, intensity, and sportsmanship. Kickoff is at 6:00 p.m. at the Police Sports Club Ground.
