Kaieteur News – The Guyana Police Force is investigating a shooting incident involving a 23-year-old miner from Bartica, which reportedly occurred last Wednesday.
Injured is Randy Bacchus. According to the police, the incident occurred at approximately 23:50 hrs. at Lot 2242 Plantation Drive, New Migrant Scheme, Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
According to the police, Bacchus came from Bartica last Monday to visit his family. On the day of the incident, he went home and entered his bedroom where he spent about 10 minutes, before returning outside. He later returned inside the house and reported that he was shot.
“He was escorted to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor on duty, who observed that it was a gunshot wound to his upper left thigh (graze). He was treated and sent away,” police said.
According to police, Bacchus provided conflicting stories about what transpired. Police said Bacchus relayed that he did not want any “police story” and would be returning to Bartica.
The miner’s hands were swabbed for gunpowder residue, but he refused to give any further information, police stated.
The scene was processed, and two suspected 9MM spent shells were recovered.
