Round-of-16 set for Deputy Mayor’s Cup Inter-Ward Knockout

Kaieteur Sports – After two nights of fierce competition, the much-anticipated Deputy Mayor’s Cup Inter-Ward Knockout Championship shifts into high gear this Wednesday with the Round of 16 at the Eve Leary ground in Kingston, Georgetown.
Friday’s and Saturday’s clashes have locked in the 16 contenders chasing a share of the $1.5 million in cash and prizes, with the 2025 inter-ward champions set to be crowned on August 20.
Saturday’s victors, include; Pourderoyen, Albouystown, Mocha, Bent Street ‘A’, Uitvlugt, Soesdyke, Back Circle ‘B’ and Gladiators, now joining Friday’s winners Liliendaal, Pele, Madrid, Stabroek Ballers, Stewartville, Eagles and Police FC in the hunt for the top cash prize of $500,000.
The tournament’s opening rounds delivered high-tempo football that exceeded expectations, even with a modest turnout, setting the stage for a thrilling middle phase on August 13.
The Round-of-16 lineup kicks off with Pourderoyen taking on Liliendaal in the opening clash, followed by Pele squaring off against newcomers Madrid. Mocha will then battle Albouystown for a place in the quarterfinals, while Stabroek Ballers face Stewartville. Bent Street ‘B’ is set to meet Uitvlugt, with Bent Street ‘A’ going up against Eagles. Police FC will lock horns with Soesdyke before the evening closes with Back Circle ‘B’ testing their skills against Gladiators in the final bid for a quarterfinal spot.
Only eight will survive the cut after Wednesday’s showdown. Tournament coordinator Lennox Arthur is calling on fans to pack the stands and bring the noise, with special gate prizes for the largest and loudest supporter groups.
Kick-off is set for Wednesday night at the Police Sports Club ground, better known as Eve Leary. Action gets underway at 6:00 pm.
