A vote for the PPP/C is a vote for continuing progress and the realization of a multicultural unity

Dear Editor,

IMAGINE THIS: The time has come when a majority of Guyanese apparently realize that while they live in a culturally pluralistic society, it is not their race, or ethnicities, that keep them divided. Also, they have come to realise that their differences are not so vast that these cannot be bridged. And, they further realise, that what keeps them apart and mistrustful of each other is something called emotional politics–a propaganda technique aimed at appealing to, and manipulating one’s feelings (state of mind), for political gains. This, then, emboldens one to ask, what apparently contributed to bringing about such realisations?

To the keen observer, the manifested economic and developmental policy decisions of the PPP/C government during the last four years, clearly indicate a linkage between the observed dynamic socio-economic transformations unfolding throughout the country, and that of the changing interpersonal behavioral interactions and exchanges occurring among citizens. Such societal dynamics find authentication in the PPP/C’s government aggressive policy articulation, and the pursuit of a One Guyanese Unity – a One Guyanese Citizenry.

When taken together, the triangulation of observations, with anecdotal evidence, and developmental projects data, clearly suggest a change in the psyche of citizens and the accompanied unfolding behavioral relations, particularly as these pertain to the emergence of a national participatory multicultural Guyanese identity. The evolution of such a unique national identity appears to increasingly serve as a buffer to divisive propagandistic appeals of racial politics, and the cadre of racists ever-present belligerent insistence on adherences to traditional party loyalties.

Today, as elections day draws closer, APNU, and the freshly minted WIN party, with its wealthy upstart politician and entourage of has-been political power seekers, are furiously inventing new and questionable methods of campaign politicking to inveigle public support. WIN, which some Guyanese jestingly refer to as ‘HOT WIND, PASSING WIND or BREAK WIND’, while shallow in governance and political acumen, has a financial reservoir and deep pockets capable of overwhelming vulnerable voters with immediate gratification. Hence, let the words of the following rhyme be an urgent call to all.

Now, and in the days ahead

Observe carefully this which is being said:

Almost always in an election year

Zealots enter the race with much fanfare

Repeatedly spouting nonsensical promises to all

Until the vote counts pronounce their downfall

Deep-pocket spending kept them afloat

Deceived by those whom they entice to vote

In losing they refuse to proclaim

Nuts and bolts policies made PPP/C victorious again

So, let your votes count towards continued progress, not backwardness, not disunity.
