Kaieteur News – A 34-year-old dental nurse and a 30-year-old self-employed woman were both hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on assault charges. Delys Gampat and Kimberley Beckles appeared before acting Chief Magistrate, Faith McGusty who read the charges.
Gampat pleaded guilty to the offence of unlawful wounding which occurred on July 30, 2025, at the Ruimveldt Police Station, where she wounded Beckles. However, due to her explanation, the magistrate recorded a not guilty plea.
She was also charged for assaulting Beckles on July 25, 2025 at GT Sports Bar, La Penitence. She pleaded not guilty to that offence.
The nurse told the court that she has known Beckles for over 20 years and claimed that Beckles and members of her family consistently harassed and verbally abused her over the years. She said on the day of the incident, they were placed in the same room at the station by an officer known to them, and Beckles began verbally assaulting her. As a result, they had a physical altercation.
Beckles was charged and pleaded not guilty to the offence of assault, causing actual bodily harm, which occurred on July 25, 2025 at GT Sports Bar, La Penitence.
The prosecutor had no objections to bail, but requested that both women be placed on a peace bond while the matter is before the court.
Magistrate McGusty granted the women bail on the condition that they stay away from each other, while the matter is before the court. Gampat was released on $25,000 for the unlawful wounding and $10,000 for the assault, while Beckles was granted $20,000 bail for the assault causing actual bodily harm.
The matters were adjourned to September 10, 2025.
