Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc. calls on President Irfaan Ali to issue strong message against domestic violence

Kaieteur News – Berbice, Guyana — The Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc. is calling on His Excellency, President Irfaan Ali, to urgently address the rising crisis of domestic violence in the country. The organization urges the President to issue a strong public statement condemning all forms of domestic abuse, and to make it clear to men that such acts will not be tolerated under his leadership and Government.
“We are deeply concerned about the growing number of women suffering in silence—many at the hands of their husbands or partners,” said a representative of the Mission. “Some of these cases have ended in tragedy, with lives lost due to abuse that went unaddressed or unreported in time.”
The organisation stresses the need for swift and serious action from law enforcement and support agencies. Reports have emerged of police failing to respond promptly to calls for help, often telling victims that patrols were unavailable. “This is unacceptable. Every second matters in a crisis. We are asking President Ali to instruct the police and other relevant agencies to treat all reports of domestic violence with the urgency and seriousness they deserve.”
The Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc. is also urging the President to publish a formal appeal in the national newspapers. This message makes clear that domestic violence has no place in Guyanese society. “We say: Enough is enough. We believe President Ali’s voice can bring national awareness, accountability, and hope to victims who feel unheard and unprotected.” The Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc. remains committed to collaborating with the Government and civil society to protect and empower vulnerable individuals and families throughout the country.
