Jul 25, 2025 Letters
Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – Only a few days ago propagandist Hareshwar Singh claimed to be so afraid that he singed only his last name to a Letter to the Editor. But when challenged, his fear immediately disappeared and he resurfaced with a 536-word missive in which more wild and absurd claims are registered (Media 7/24/2025).
Let us take note of the more egregious attempts by Hareshwar Singh to advocate for the OFAC sanctioned Azruddin Mohamed. He has a problem with Mae Thomas. Fair enough, but she is not a presidential candidate, or any candidate for that matter. As with most spin doctors, Singh claims that “This (his letter) isn’t about defending [Azruddin] Mohamed.” Forgive me, but your letter is exactly about pushing the candidacy of the man sanctioned by the United States government.
Hareshwar Singh also wants to be a philosopher. Note for instance this moral defence of Azruddin – “OFAC does not determine Guyana’s moral compass—we the people do.” Well Sir, if you are “the people,” then we are in trouble. Why? Because you find it morally correct to defend someone who has been implicated in potentially serious criminal matters as per the OFAC determination.
That OFAC determination, in part, reads as follows – “Azruddin and Mohamed’s Enterprise evaded Guyana’s tax on gold exports and defrauded the Guyanese government of tax revenues by under-declaring their gold exports to Guyanese authorities (Ibid).
And according to the same source, “[b]etween 2019 and 2023, Mohamed’s Enterprise omitted more than 10 thousand kilogrammes of gold from import-and-export declarations and avoided paying more than US$50 million in duty taxes to the Government of Guyana (Guyana Chronicle 7/14/2025). Hareshwar Singh’s poppycock defence of Azruddin Mohamed has now been exposed.
Sincerely,
Dr. Randy Persaud
