Charlestown man on $300k bail for firearm, ammo charge
…Magistrate raises concerns over poor police investigations

Kaieteur News – A 34-year-old man was on Wednesday placed on $300,000 bail when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer a possession of firearm and ammunition charge.
The accused, Keith Collymore of Charlestown, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the charges which allege that on July 21, 2025 at Albouystown he had in his possession a 9mm pistol and five matching rounds in his possession without being the holder of a licence.
Collymore’s attorney told the court that the accused is not a flight risk while arguing that at the time of the incident her client was in a club with other persons. The attorney said that Collymore has cooperated with the police.
However, the prosecution told the court that the firearm was found at the club but they were unable to confirm that it was in Collymore’s possession. A search was done at the club and Collymore was arrested.
When asked by Magistrate McGusty for additional information on how the firearm was found and how the accused was linked to its discovery, the prosecution was unable to state.
As a result, magistrate McGusty granted bail, and the matter was adjourned for August 20, 2025.
The acting chief magistrate said the prosecution’s inability to provide details on the case indicates poor investigation. She said that over the past week, she presided over several firearm offences where the police’s investigations were carelessly done. Magistrate McGusty said too that the matter is disturbing and cause for concern and reflects a worrying trend about how serious matters are handled.
