Construction worker jailed for possession of smoking utensil

Kaieteur News – A construction worker was jailed on Thursday for one year and fined $6000 for possession of a smoking utensil.
The accused, 21-year-old Akash Parsaram called ‘Samsung’ of Success, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs who read the charge to him.
He pleaded guilty to the offence of possession of a smoking utensil.
Meanwhile, Parsaram was also charged with robbery under arms and was remanded to prison. It is alleged that the construction worker robbed a 16-year-old trainee woodworker of one cellular phone valued $26,000, one leather wallet valued $3,000 and $10,000 cash.
The matter was adjourned for August 20, 2025.
