Kaieteur News – Courts Optical, the eye care division of Unicomer Guyana, on Monday relaunched its flagship branch on Main Street, Georgetown, in celebration of a decade of delivering vision care services to the Guyanese public.
According to a press release from Unicomer, the relaunch commemorates 10 years of eye health services and the company’s recommitment to “meeting customers where they are” across Guyana. The Main Street branch, originally opened in 2015, was Unicomer’s first-ever Courts Optical store in the country.
Speaking at the relaunch event, Unicomer Guyana’s Managing Director, Gillian Matthews, emphasised the significance of the occasion, describing it as more than a simple reopening. “It is a celebration of growth, resilience, innovation, and our continued commitment to the people of Guyana,” she stated.
Tracing the company’s evolution since its 1993 debut, she noted: “When Courts Guyana first opened its doors, we set out on a bold mission—to provide affordable, high-quality furniture, appliances, and electronics to every Guyanese home. And over the decades, we’ve grown into more than a retailer. We’ve become a trusted name across this nation—a name that reflects reliability, affordability, and service with integrity.”
Unicomer’s expansion now includes Courts Mega Stores, Courts Ready Cash, Lucky Dollar, Servitech, Courts Outlet Stores, and Courts Optical, which has become a major player in Guyana’s healthcare sector.
“What began as a single optical store has grown into a network of 11 Courts Optical branches, proudly serving customers across all three counties,” Matthews noted. “Over the last nine years, Courts Optical has stayed focused on one goal: delivering accessible, affordable, and high-quality eye care to every Guyanese.”
Courts Optical has also evolved into a healthcare hub, offering free comprehensive eye exams, consultations, and at the Linden branch, glaucoma testing and general health checks.
Matthews also highlighted several key upgrades introduced with the relaunch, aimed at enhancing both service delivery and customer experience. These enhancements include:
She said, “These upgrades aren’t just about aesthetics or convenience — they reflect who we are becoming: a brand that is modern, innovative, clinically focused, and community centric.”
