Kaieteur News – NGSA results coming out today. And there will be celebrations and lots of crying. Some people will cry with joy and others will cry in anguish – the anguish of not obtaining the school them (or rather their parents) desired.
Too much is hanging on this primary school-leaving examination. It places too much pressure on the children and it affects them psychologically when they do not do well. They feel that they have let their parents down and no child should have to experience that. The worth of a child should never be about passing an examination. The only examination worth passing is the Examination of Life – and that examination got many sittings and you cannot be absent from any.
This reminds dem boys about four university students who plan a lil scheme fuh skip dem final exam. Imagine that! Big people, almost done school, and still trying to play smart man. Dem seh, “We gon turn up late, tell de professor some nice story, and tek de test tomorrow.”
So dem tun up almost at de end of de exam—paper done almost done-write! Dem run to de professor wid long face and sad story. “Sir,” dem seh, “we really try come early, but de car get a blow-out and we deh pon de road long, long time trying fuh change tyre.”
Now this professor ain’t no sweetbread. He smile and tell dem, “No scene. You could still write de exam today. I gon give y’all one question alone. You get it right, you pass wid an A.”
Dem four boys feel like dem win lotto. Dem sit down, full confidence, thinking dem hustle wuk better than dem even plan. Until dem see de question:
“Which tyre blow out?”
